Suicide Prevention Training

Sept. 3, 2026

We are pleased to share the successful completion of the Suicide Prevention Training conducted at Lalitpur Nursing Campus (LNC), a constituent campus of Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), on 3rd September 2026 (18th Bhadra 2083).

The training was conducted in collaboration with Lalitpur Nursing Campus (LNC) and the PAHS Undergraduate Student Society, bringing together 90 participants, including the Dean, Assistant Dean, and MN & BN nursing professionals. The participation of academic leaders and nursing professionals reflected a strong commitment toward strengthening suicide prevention and mental health support within healthcare and educational settings.

The training focused on developing practical knowledge and skills required to respond appropriately when someone may be experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of suicide. Participants explored how to recognize warning signs, initiate supportive conversations, respond with empathy, assess suicide risk, provide immediate psychological support, and connect individuals with appropriate professional services.

Through interactive discussions and practical learning, participants were encouraged to move beyond simply recognizing warning signs and develop the confidence to respond in a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner. The session also highlighted the importance of timely referral, professional support, and coordinated care in ensuring that individuals at risk receive appropriate assistance.

For nursing professionals and future healthcare providers, the ability to identify changes in behaviour, listen without judgment, ask appropriate questions, and respond to suicide-related concerns can be an essential part of providing compassionate and holistic care. Strengthening these skills can help create healthcare environments where individuals feel safer seeking help and speaking openly about their struggles.

The successful completion of this training represents another meaningful step toward building a community of skilled, compassionate, and informed responders who can contribute to suicide prevention and promote mental wellbeing.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Lalitpur Nursing Campus, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, the PAHS Undergraduate Student Society, academic leadership, nursing professionals, and all 90 participants for their valuable participation and commitment to strengthening suicide prevention efforts.
