Mental Health First Responder Training Program – Batch 2
June 7, 2026
The National Solution and Research Center (NSRC) successfully conducted Batch 2 of Nepal's first-ever Mental Health First Responder Training Program on Baishakh 24, 2083. This intensive 3.5-hour training session was designed to equip participants with practical skills to recognize, respond to, and manage mental health crises safely and effectively until professional support can be accessed. As part of NSRC's commitment to strengthening community-based mental health support systems, the program aimed to develop a network of trained Mental Health First Responders capable of providing immediate and compassionate assistance during times of psychological distress.
The training was facilitated by Psychologist and Psychiatric Nurse Sujata Sitoula, who led participants through evidence-based approaches to crisis intervention and psychological first aid. With the active participation of 15+ attendees, the session created a dynamic learning environment filled with meaningful discussions, shared experiences, and practical insights. Participants demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and commitment throughout the training, making the session highly engaging and impactful.
The curriculum covered critical mental health emergencies, including Acute Stress Reactions, Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder, Suicide Disclosure and Immediate Suicide Risk Response, and Severe Dissociation and Psychological Disorientation. Through expert presentations, case studies, scenario-based discussions, and practical response exercises, participants enhanced their ability to identify warning signs, assess risks, provide emotional stabilization, communicate effectively during crises, and facilitate timely referrals to specialized mental health services.
NSRC extends its sincere gratitude to all participants for their active engagement, thoughtful contributions, and insightful discussions throughout the training. Your willingness to learn, share experiences, and participate wholeheartedly made the session more meaningful, informative, and impactful. Thank you for being part of this pioneering initiative and for contributing to the collective effort of building safer, more supportive, and mentally healthy communities across Nepal.
