One day Program on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

May 25, 2026

The National Solution and Research Centre (NSRC) successfully conducted a one-day
Orientation Program on 28th of Baishak 2083 on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention with the
active participation of more than 93 BSc Nursing and PCL Nursing students. The program was
organized with the aim of increasing awareness about mental health, emotional well-being,
suicide prevention, and the importance of early identification and support for individuals
experiencing emotional distress. The session also focused on encouraging empathy, reducing
stigma surrounding mental health, and promoting help-seeking behavior among future healthcare
professionals.

The orientation program was conducted in collaboration with Everest College of Nursing and
supported by HAMS Nursing College. NSRC facilitators and mental health professionals led
interactive discussions and awareness sessions covering topics such as stress management,
recognizing warning signs of suicide risk, self-care strategies, and ways to provide emotional
support to peers and patients in clinical and community settings.

Throughout the program, students actively participated in discussions, reflections, and interactive
learning activities, demonstrating strong interest in mental health education and psychosocial
support. The session created a safe space for open conversations about emotional struggles,
academic stress, and the importance of mental well-being within the nursing profession. Students
also gained practical understanding of how to approach individuals experiencing mental health
crises with compassion and sensitivity.

The program resulted in increased awareness and understanding of mental health and suicide
prevention among participants. Students reported gaining valuable knowledge on emotional
regulation, peer support, stress management, and early intervention strategies. The orientation
further highlighted the importance of integrating mental health awareness into nursing education
and strengthening the role of healthcare students as advocates for emotional well-being and
suicide prevention in their communities.
